August 2023

Memories of summer quickly fade into the happenings of daily life. As straggling heatwaves bring back a final taste of summer amidst rainier, colder weeks it is a time to reflect, a time to take one more moment to enjoy the hot sunny days, smells of barbeques in the park, and sounds of the masses who cumulate around the canals and rivers taking one final dip for the year.

For me, in terms of my photography, August is a slower month. After summer trips, full of photography, I seem to have slowed down again. Gone are the days of shooting multiple rolls a week. Working full-time again means I have less time to spend my days exploring Amsterdam. And the shots that I do take are along my daily plans. This does mean I am taking fewer photos. But along with this comes the realization that these photos capture the more interesting moments of these days, the special through the mundane. Seeing similar routes and people on a daily basis means the abnormal sticks out and these moments tend to further capture my attention. I don’t see these slower periods negatively, and often actually quite the opposite. Furthermore, these periods often come with a higher keeper rate from each roll. Okay, I’m done reflecting, these are my favorite shots I developed throughout August.
