An introduction to Lucas Kehus

Growing up in Maputo Mozambique, Washington DC, and now based in Amsterdam, a yearning for adventure and new experiences guides my life. Throughout these adventures, fleeting moments of light, joy, and action continue to captivate me. My goal is to capture and document these small moments, those few seconds which create so much joy yet are often forgotten.

My first real introduction to photography began on a family road trip through Iceland. I saw beautiful images of the surrounding mountains with misty waterfalls, their movement captured through a long exposure. Entranced, I immediately began trying to recreate these images. I approached each location with a small tripod, its shaky legs unable to hold the camera still enough for a sharp image, and took as many shots as possible. I left that day with an utter sense of joy, only later to find out none of my images were useable, but from then on I was hooked.

Landscape photography from that first blurry shot has always made my heart flutter and pushes me to go on more and more adventures. I have since expanded into street, and event photography, and have found so much joy in capturing the little moments that make life so beautiful.

Branching into the analog camera world has continued to push my creativity and allows me to keep finding those beautiful moments. The process from taking exposure to developing my own film and printing using the zonal technique developed by Ansel Adams allows me to be fully involved in the process. Although challenging, this process continues to fuel my creativity, and I am happy to share my work with you!
